As many of you know Apple held a keynote event early this morning 2 AM Tokyo time (10 AM US West Coast time), and during this event they announced the new iPhone 4. Below is a breakdown of what was announced.

General announcements: - 5 Billion app downloads - 1 Billion dollars made by developers to date - Zynga is bringing their most popular Facebook game Farmville to the iPhone
iPhone 4: - New design, 9.3 mm, 24% thinner than 3GS - Front facing camera - MicroSim card tray - Second microphone for noise cancellation - Steel band around the outside, it's part of the antenna. - Glass front and back.
Screen: - 4 x's the pixels of previous iPhones, 326 DPI, 3.5 inch IPS screen. (same screen technology as iPad) - Apple calls this Retina display - 960 x 640 resolution
CPU & battery: - iPhone 4 uses the A4 cpu (same CPU as the iPad) - Battery is bigger, power management is better, 6 hours 3G browsing, 10 hours WiFi Browsing, 10 hours video playback, 40 hours music listening, 300 hours standby
New sensors: - Gyroscope hw built-in, a 3 axis gryo, has 6 axis's of motion sensing, new APIs for developers to access the gyroscope.
Camera: - 5 Megapixel, tap to focus, LED flash, bigger sensor. - 720p video recording at 30 FPS. - Geotag photos and video - Built-in easy video editing and sharing - For more advanced video editing iMovie available for iPhone for $5 in App store.
OS Name change & feature overview: - iPhone OS now called iOS. - Same OS that runs on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. - some of the new features in OS 4.0 include multitasking (task switching), unified Mail inbox, multiple Exchange account support, and creating folders. - iBook Store coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch. New PDF reading support in iBooks. - Developers can get iOS 4.0 today. - Current iPhone 3GS/3G will get the release June 21. iPod Touch 3rd gen and 2nd gen owners get the 4.0 release free. (previous releases iPod Touch owners had to pay for the firmware update.)
iAds: - Apple ads platform built into iOS 4. - Predicts iAds will have 48% of second half 2010 mobile ads market.
Video Chat: - Apple calls the feature FaceTime. - iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 over WiFi only, no setup required. Can use either front or main camera. - WiFi only Facetime video calls in 2010. Need time to work with operators to support video calling in the future. - FaceTime is built with H.264 video, AAC audio, Apple is proposing for it to be an open industry standard.
Price and Release Dates: - White and Black versions available, $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB in US on AT&T contract. - 8 GB iPhone 3GS drops price to $99 in US. iPhone 3G is gone. - Preorders start June 15th for US, Frace, Germany, Japan, and UK. - Shipping June 24th to Japan, US, Frace, Germany, and UK - In July shipping to 18 more countries. - In August shipping to 27 countries, in September 40 more. Plan to be available in 88 countries by Sept.
So if you're in the market for an iPhone in Japan pre-order is June 15th, then expect to visit a Softbank store June 24th.
